Plane Crash
A small engine airplane crashed in the general vicinity of the Sussex Airport
Wednesday morning, August 12, in the area of County Highway Route 565
and Lewisburg Road. The yellow-and-white Cessna crashed nose first into
the Papakating Creek shortly after takeoff. The plane was found in a
wooded area about a half mile from the runway. The pilot and passenger
were taken by helicopter to Morristown Memorial Hospital with non-life
threatening injuries.
Emergency response personnel responded to this situation, including Wantage Fire Department, Sussex Fire Department, Wantage First Aid Squad, Sussex First Aid Squad, Sussex County Hazardous Materials Unit, County Sheriff’s Department, and NJ State Police.
