  General School Information

Delayed Openings
If weather conditions result in a delayed opening of school, announcements will be made between 6:30 and 8:30 a.m. on radio stations 103.7 and 102.3. Please continue to listen to the announcements in case the delay is changed to closing of school. This secondary announcement will be made as soon as possible.

A delayed opening means that school will start 90 minutes later than usual. (Example, if your child's bus normally comes at 8 a.m., it should arrive at 9:30 a.m. with the delayed opening.)

Transportation 2007/2008
A note to Parents/Guardians: If you are anticipating any changes in your child’s transportation needs i.e. new babysitter, new daycare for the 2007/2008 school year, please submit a letter to the Transportation Secretary, Sussex-Wantage Board of Education, 31 Ryan Road, Wantage, NJ, 07461. Letters should be provided as far in advance as possible to allow time for such changes to be worked into bus schedules.

Sports Physicals

SMS
Sports physicals were held at the Sussex Middle School on August 9 ONLY from 9 a.m. to noon.  Students must have a sports physical to be eligible to participate in an interscholastic sport during the 2006-2007 school year.  Dr. Randazzo will conduct physicals free of charge.  Any questions please call Mrs. Paling at 973-875-1134.

HPRHS
Sports physicals were held at High Point Regional High School on June 22, 23, 29, 30. These were the only days on which free physicals will be offered.  No further sports physicals will be done during the school year.

Any candidates who miss these free physicals must have their physical done by their own medical doctor at their own expense.  The required school forms (permission and physical) must be filled in by the doctor.  These forms will be available all summer in the high school main office.

If you choose to go to your own physician, the physical must be done after June 16, 2006 to be valid for the 2006-07 athletic year.

Before any candidate may begin practice for any sport, all necessary forms must be given to the School Nurse. Most fall sports to begin in mid-August, and to ensure adequate time for review and approved by the school physician, all forms must be in the nurse's office no later than July 24th.  Candidates will not be permitted to begin practice until forms have been reviewed and approved by the school physician.

State Requires Immunizations

The State of New Jersey has mandated that ALL students entering kindergarten or sixth grades on or after September 01, 2001 must have received a series of three Hepatitis B vaccines and a second MMR, prior to entering school in September. Students MUST at least have received their first (of three) Hepatitis B vaccine prior to September 2003! Call your physician now to find out the status of your child's immunizations. Forward copies of the immunization to the school nurse—Pam Flynn at the Lawrence School or Chris Paling at the Sussex Middle School.

The Sussex County Health Department sponsors vaccination clinics twice a month. Please call 948-5400 extension 54 for information about the clinic or to make an appointment.

Box Tops for Education

Box Tops for Education…They're everywhere! It's time to send in your box tops. There is a container in each homeroom for students to put their box tops in. At each monthly PTO meeting, the top three classes from both schools will be announced. Prizes will be awarded in June to the classes with the largest, year-end box top collections.

Please take a few minutes to register at boxtops4education.com. Use "SUSSEX WANTAGE PTO/PTA, Sussex, NJ" as the designated school. The PTO receives credit for bonus box tops for each family that registers. Also, if you do any shopping on line, log on to www.boxtops4education.com and choose your online store from the 175+ that participate in the Box Tops for Education program. Proceed to shop as usual. By doing so, the Sussex Wantage PTO will receive up to 10% of your purchase. Your name and personal information are not made known to the PTO and the purchase prices are the same as they would be without participating through box tops program. The proceeds from your purchases will enable the PTO to continue to provide educational programs and supplies to your children. If you registered last year, be sure to update your information and we will receive an additional five box tops credits. Clip, clip, clip…

If you do not have a child attending the k-8 Sussex-Wantage school district, you may mail to or drop off your box tops at the Lawrence School or the Wantage School.

BUS CHANGES Due to the fact that some buses are full and cannot take an extra rider, if your child needs to ride a bus that is not his/her regular bus, please call the transportation office at 875-3175 to make arrangements.
