High Point Teacher Receives Teacher Excellence Award

The International Technology and EngineeringEducators Association selected Dan Muller, from High Point Regional High School to receive the High School Technology Teacher Excellence Award for 2010.

Charleston,  NC, March 19, 2010:  At the recent annual conference for the International Technology and Engineering Educators Association, Mr. Dan Muller from High Point regional High School, was recognized as one of best.

Each year the Teacher Excellence winners are recognized at the largest National conference for Technology and Engineering Educators.    This year, High Point, teacher Dan Muller was recognized at the general session of the conference where the award and plaque were presented.    According to the ITEEA the Teacher Excellence award is the most prestigious award given in recognition of Technology Education Teachers.  The awards were presented to elementary, middle, and high school teachers.  ITEEA is a partner with Goodheart-Wilcox Publishing in providing recognition. This award honors individuals within the membership of NJTEA that make a special effort that results in positive reflection of Technology Education outside of the profession.  Whether it be through a single act or concentrated effort over a period of time, these individuals are worthy of recognition as exceptional educators that realize that leadership and advocacy is needed for the profession beyond the walls of their classroom.  Mr. Muller’s actions have had a positive impact on the image of the Technology Education profession in new Jersey and around the nation, by helping to spread the word about the benefits of technological literacy for all students.

Muller was recognized for his dedication to the students, curriculum development and teaching style.   “Mr. Muller has been instrumental in improving the curriculum in the Technological Studies Department at High Point” says Supervisors, Mark Wallace. “ Muller has designed and implemented our Biotechnology course offering.   Enrollment has doubled and the students are designing and building solutions to problems related to Bio fuels, Hydroponics, and Environmental Technology   “Mr. Muller utilizes information technology for teaching and student learning.  Mr. Muller also teaches High Point’s Material Processing courses which he soon hopes to add units on composite material technology.  Mr. Muller has  been to San Antonio, TX and Charlotte, NC to present with Dr Wells from Virginia Tech. on their  collaboration to develop the Biotech class. He taught New York teachers at Buffalo State University last summer   on how to implement Biotechnology into a technology education program as part of their Engineers of the Future program. 

Wallace stated, “He has the activity design gift and he knows how to design situations relevant for today’s students so they are technologically literate”.   “The State University of New York- OSWEGO knows how to prepare college students to teach technology education.” Says Wallace. 

Muller has also been recognized with the NJTEA High School Teacher Excellence Award and the  NJTEA Image Award  High Point was awarded the High School Program Excellence Award from TEANJ in 2003 and the states first Five Star Award for Technology Education Excellence in 2003 and 2008.
