WANTAGE RESIDENT SERVING
OUR COUNTRY TO RETURN SOON
Greg Williams, a Wantage Township resident and member of the Wantage Township
Board of Recreation Commissioners, is currently serving our county on
active duty in the Middle East as a member of the Seabees, the Naval Construction
Force of the United States Navy.
At their meeting of August 25, 2005, the Wantage Township Board of Recreation
Commissioners unanimously voted to hold Mr. Williams’s seat open
until he returns from active military duty.
“We recently heard from Greg, saying that he hopes to be back with
us in time for the July 2006 meeting of the Recreation Commission”
reports Wantage Township Administrator Jim Doherty. “We look
forward to Greg’s return. We have been thinking of him and
supporting him in spirit ever since he left.”
Mr. Williams, who holds the rank of BU2 in the Seabees, reports via e-mail:
“I have had my fill of sand, and I am looking forward to seeing
the wooded hills and open fields of Wantage again. The daily temp is around
100 degrees now and climbing.”
As a sign of pride in his home town, Mr. Williams made arrangements with
his superiors, and an American flag was flown for an entire day with military
honors over Kuwait in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom for the Township
of Wantage.
“Greg is a special person, and we are very fortunate to have him
as a member of our community” says Wantage Township Mayor Jeff Parrott.
“Not only does Greg serve and protect his country, he also volunteers
his time and expertise on the local level. We look forward to formally
accepting this American Flag from Greg at the 2006 Wantage Day Celebration
in September. At that time, I will call upon all of his neighbors
to thank Greg Williams for his patriotism, courage and service to our
country and our community.”
For over 60 years, the men and women of the Naval Construction Force have
been giving their all to protect our Nation and serve our armed forces
with pride. The motto of the Seabees is “With Compassion For
Others, We Build – We Fight – For Peace With Freedom.”
