DAR Award Ceremony

On March 7, 2009, the Chinkchewunska Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution held an award ceremony at the Lafayette House in Lafayette, NJ. 125 members and guests were on hand to celebrate life time achievements of several local residents.
This year’s preservation award was given to Leonard Peck for his work in the Delaware Water Gap National Park. Leonard has devoted many volunteer hours to improving the Park.
The Wanderers Car Group of NJ was honored for their Community Service. This group has held food drives, money collections to benefit those in need in Sussex County. They also volunteer to escort dignitaries in local parades. Their antique cars are always a hit!
Bill Truran earned the History Award. Bill, while
working full time, has found time to write about the local history of Sussex
County. Bill shares his passion for history by giving lectures and writing
books. He has had four books published and is currently researching creameries
of the area.
The last award was presented to Jennie Sweetman. This award
is entitled the Ramsey/Stamy/Ayers award. Each year someone who supports
not only history and patriotism, but supports our local chapter and/or
museum is honored. Jennie writes a weekly history column in the NJ Herald.
Many of her columns refer to the ancestors of our chapter and our museum.
